First Suzuki Hybrid Model Announced

It likely won't be heading for U.S. shores, but a plug-in hybrid variant of the Suzuki Swift has been officially announced by the Japanese automaker. Suzuki had prepared a concept of an electric Swift for the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show that we'd previously reported on, but now from the looks of it the Swift will be going somewhere in between full EV and gasoline powered.
This is a smart move is you ask anyone here at Mathews Suzuki. After all, not every car buyer out there is ready to commit to a full EV. The technology is still quite new, and many models out there simply don't sport the kind of driving range that commuters need to make long trips. That's why plug-in hybrids are becoming some of the most widely adopted ones on the road today. They feature the cost-effective driving range of an EV, with the extended range of a gasoline powered vehicle.
Right now, the Swift Plug-In can travel around 18 miles purely on electricity, which is ideal for a city commuter. That way, they'd almost never have to visit a gas station. They can simply plug in at home and be ready to go when they need to be. The extended range of the gasoline-powered engine, however, makes the vehicle ideal for any commuter who's simply seeking an efficient ride.
